Why a Full Certification?

One course opens the door.
The full path changes how you practice.

Ethics 101 gives you the foundation. But the real transformation happens when you move through the entire sequence: from internal self-awareness to peer consultation frameworks to the concrete tools you’ll use for the rest of your career. Each course builds on the last. The certification means you’ve done the full work, not just the introduction.

In a field with no universal licensing standard, the InnerEthics® Level 1 Certification is the signal that you’ve invested in the ethical depth this work demands.

The People Behind the Curriculum

Kylea Taylor, MS, LMFT — Creator of InnerEthics®

Kylea is an internationally recognized author and educator specializing in ethical practice in extraordinary states of consciousness. She is the founder of InnerEthics®, developed over three decades of work in psychedelic and transpersonal communities. The relational framework of InnerEthics® is at the heart of every PGN course. Kylea studied directly with Stanislav Grof and Christina Grof beginning in 1984, worked as a Senior Trainer in the Grof Transpersonal Training for a decade, and spent nine years on the staff of a residential substance abuse treatment center. She brings clinical depth and lived experience to everything she teaches. Her books on ethical awareness and peer consultation for psychedelic practitioners remain foundational texts in the field.

“I created InnerEthics® after seeing practitioners doing extraordinary work in situations of amplified relational complexity that call for ethical self-reflection beyond rules and guidelines. PGN has become a wonderful home for InnerEthics® where it can support ethical development as a living practice in community.”

Kylea Taylor, MS, LMFT

Creator of InnerEthics®

Ashley Carmen, LMFT — Founder of Psychedelic Guide Network

I built the Psychedelic Guide Network because I kept meeting brilliant practitioners carrying impossible ethical weight: completely alone. The InnerEthics® certification is the path I wish someone had shown me before I learned these lessons the hard way.

Course Description

Relationship is at the heart of healing, and ethics is at the heart of any healing relationship. In psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, clients are surrendering to an as-yet unknown transformation, making trust in their practitioner essential.

This comprehensive 20-hour homestudy program brings together six foundational courses in self-reflective ethics, dual relationship, the ethics of caring, and peer consultation for psychedelic practitioners. Grounded in the Inner Ethics framework, the program addresses the internal dimension of ethical practice — the motivations, vulnerabilities, and relational dynamics that precede practitioner behavior with clients — alongside practical tools for ethical self-management and structured peer consultation.

Participants are introduced to practical ethical awareness tools for identifying motivations and assessing the therapeutic container, the structure and roles of Inner Ethics Peer Consultation Groups, the full Inner Ethics model for ethical self-reflection and peer consultation, the ethical complexity of dual and multiple relationships, the foundations of right relationship and the ethics of caring, and the professional vulnerabilities common in psychedelic-assisted practice. Teachings are appropriate for healthcare professionals as well as the general public.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the program, participants will be better able to:

  1. Utilize the Chart of Professional Vulnerabilities to Ethical Misconduct to identify one’s own motivations.
  2. Describe one ethical difference between therapy with a client in an ordinary vs. extra-ordinary (psychedelic) state of consciousness.
  3. Utilize the tool Protection, Permission and Connection within a therapeutic container to assess the presence and balance of these three elements.
  4. Utilize the tool Who’s This For? to identify conflicts of interest between client and therapist.
  5. Explain the functions of the three active roles — Facilitator, Presenter, and Consultant — within an Inner Ethics Peer Consultation Group.
  6. Describe at least three benefits of structure in a peer consultation group, including the use of group agreements, defined role functions, and a safe container for self-inquiry.
  7. Describe the Inner Ethics model and explain how internal ethical awareness complements rule-based ethics and fills ethical gaps in work involving profound or non-ordinary states of consciousness.
  8. Identify common ethical vulnerabilities in psychedelic-assisted and related practices, including dual and multiple relationships, exploitation risks, and therapist countertransference.
  9. Apply Inner Ethics Ethical Awareness Tools to self-reflection, ethical self-management, and peer consultation scenarios.
  10. Explain the structure, roles, and functions of Inner Ethics Peer Consultation Groups.
  11. Demonstrate understanding of rupture-and-repair processes, direct truth-telling, and ethical dialogue within professional peer relationships.
  12. Identify a professional dual or multiple relationship.
  13. List one reason why dual relationship is ethically precarious.
  14. Explain one reason why dual relationship may be of benefit to the client.
  15. Describe the core principles of therapeutic ethics and explain how “right relationship” functions as a foundation for caring, clinical practice.
  16. Identify common ethical vulnerabilities that arise from professional caring, including boundary confusion, misuse of power, and unexamined professional motivations.
  17. Explain the difference between ethical caring and unethical boundary crossings, including how professional love may be ethically held without exploitation.
  18. Apply ethical decision-making grounded in self-reflection, relational awareness, and responsibility for client welfare.
  19. Predict early warning signs of ethical drift, burnout, entitlement, counter-transference, or rationalization within therapeutic relationships.
  20. Demonstrate an understanding of the practitioner’s responsibility for managing transference, counter-transference, dependency, and attachment.
